Basic Obedience Class
This class is an ideal starter class for those who want the best-behaved pet in their neighborhood. It's also the ideal place to start for dog/owner teams who want to begin learning about competitive obedience training.
As the name implies, the class covers basic obedience commands, such as with me, sit, down, wait, all with distractions. We'll also introduce the skills that ultimately will be required in the competition obedience ring.
Since no dog can totally absorb the obedience commands in a class environment, we also focus on teaching YOU how to train and reinforce the commands during at-home exercises.
The Class
Seven consecutive Wednesday nights, 6:00-6:40, at the Osterville Community Center.
Fees
$85 ($80 for Cape Cod Kennel Club members). We offer a one-time $5 discount if you adopted your dog from a shelter or rescue group. Refunds are given if the class is full or under-subscribed, otherwise, fees are non-refundable. Please feel free to stop by and watch a class before you enroll.
Prerequisites
Dogs must be up-to-date on their rabies vaccinations.
Registration
Class size is limited and pre-class registration is required. Send a completed Registration Form, a copy of your dog's rabies certificate or vaccination record, and a check for the training fee to the contact listed on the registration form. If you're claiming the $5 rescue discount, we also need proof of adoption. Consider your dog registered unless we notify you.
The First Class
Bring your dog on a buckle collar and 6-foot lead, a toy (preferably a tug toy), and LOTS of soft treats (stick cheese, liver, cut up hot dogs, buddy bits, jerky treats).
