Foundation I - Obedience for Agility Class

Whether you're trying agility for the fun of it or ultimately want to compete on the New England circuit, Foundation 1 is the start. This class introduces the foundation skills used in all follow-on classes and we consider it one of our most important classes...taught by one of the most capable trainers in this area - Heather Garre.

Training Skills
Start learning a training method that's the worldwide standard in agility...positive, reward-based training.

Handling Skills
You and your dog will take the first steps toward becoming a real agility "team". In this low-distraction environment, you'll start learning how to manage your dog when you're among other agility teams, as well as at the start, during, and after you finish an agility sequence. Your dog will start learning to reliably respond to your instructions.

Obstacle Skills
Introduce your dog to training-level agility obstacles and start teaching your dog to safely, accurately, and willingly navigate those obstacles.

Sequence Skills
Once your team has mastered a core set of training, handling, and obstacle skills, you'll "put it all together" and begin running short sequences.

The Class
Six consecutive Tuesday nights, 6:00-7:00 PM

Fees
$150 ($140 for Cape Cod Kennel Club members). We offer a one-time $5 discount if you adopted your dog from a shelter or rescue group. Refunds are given if the class is full or under-subscribed, otherwise, fees are non-refundable. Please feel free to stop by (without your dog) and watch a class before you enroll.

Prerequisites
Basic Obedience Class and Canine Good Citizens Certificate are prerequisite requirements for this Agility training class.  In addition, your dog should be proven friendly and calm in the presence of people and other dogs, and have a basic ability to settle quietly at your side during instruction time, to come when called on leash, and to ignore most distractions. Your instructor will reserve the right to remove any unmannerly and disruptive dog from the class, as we want to provide a pleasant and safe learning experience for dogs and handlers ready to focus on agility team formation work. Please call Heather Garre at 508-896-0126 or cell 508-736-3202 if you have any questions about your readiness for this class.

Dogs must be up-to-date on their rabies shots and able to withstand the rigors of agility (please talk with your vet before you enroll if you have ANY concerns).

Registration
Class size is limited and pre-class registration is required. Send a completed Registration Form, a copy of your dog's rabies vaccination record, and a check for the training fee to the contact on the registration form. If claiming the one-time $5 rescue discount, enclose proof of adoption.

The First Class
DO bring your dog and DO bring LOTS of small, soft treats. DO reduce the amount of food you feed your dog for dinner. If you normally use a head halter or special collar, DO use it the first night; otherwise use a buckle collar and a 6' leash.
